Hi everyone well last night we decided to venture into the unknown. We put our large Uilimaker together and might I say it is HUGE! It is definitely going to be a permanent addition to the house. It's so big that you could probably fit about 6 or 7 Utilimaker's inside it! Well if you don't believe us check out our pictures! Oh and pardon the mess we had to make alot of room for the machine.

Cool project. How did you make this one, a CNC router or a (large!) lasercutter? Have you worked out the rest of the mechanics yet, like what size of shafts and motors to use? The two biggest problem I see with a large 3D printer is the extruder and the build platform. You really need a stiff& strong build platform if you wish to avoid ugly artefacts higher up. And you need an extruder that can extrude ~(scale)^3 more material to have a chance to keep your printing time below several days.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever get to it I will build an Ultimaker of 60x60x60 cm.
Holy cow!
ReplyDeleteI love this project :) Totally looking forward to see how you solve the build platform and how the print head scales in there.
Keep us posted!
